A leading family-owned beef enterprise known for its rich soils and abundant water reserves has hit the market and is tipped to sell for more than $120 million.
McPhee Beef farms is offering part of its New England, NSW cattle property for sale.
The property, spanning about 8393.92ha (20,741 acres) trades under the Maria River Cattle Company banner and is one of the most significant and well-developed breeding, backgrounding, and fattening rural estates in eastern Australia.
Located on the Great Dividing Range in the Walcha and Yarrowitch district, the property includes the contiguous Benditi, Mooraback, Clonmel, and the Overflow (6,755 ha) and nearby Glen Eagle (1,638 ha)
The turnkey sale is managed by Colliers Agribusiness and Meares & Associates.
Sam Meares, of Meares & Associates, said the property’s scale, altitude, excellent soil types and maritime climate made it a unique investment opportunity.
He said recent sales in the New England area had ranged between $6000 and $11,000 per acre and, given its carrying capacity of about 108,000 DSE, McPhee Farms was expected to attract offers of about $6,000 per acre.
“The property has been extensively developed with 75% of the land sown to high-performance pasture, with plans to increase to over 80% by early 2026,” Mr Meares said.
“The aggressive pasture program includes over 200 km of new fencing, 20 km of laneways, and a top-dressing program with annual applications of single super and lime.
“The property also features excellent accommodation, five major sets of steel cattle yards, and extensive plant and machinery sheds.”
The operation has been developed by the McPhee family for more than 30 years, with key features including rich basalt and soft loam soils, large areas of arable pasture development areas and topography and abundant natural spring water, streams and 190 dams.
The property has moderate altitudes and temperatures, low frost numbers compared to other New England climates and average annual rainfall of 950mm.
McPhee Beef Farms is home to the elite Maria River Angus breeding herd, producing high-performance F1 Wagyu progeny for a leading integrated beef operator.
The operation has excellent fattening capabilities, with the ability to fatten up to 15,000 steers annually, showing sustainable weight gains of about 1kg per head per day.
Colliers Agribusiness Principal Rawdon Briggs the high-performance Wagyu bulls were selected specifically by their offtake partners, to produce the desired F1 Wagyu performance, who take 100 per cent of all the F1 progeny going to this well-regarded, integrated beef family business.
“This business takes livestock regardless of prevailing weather and market conditions,” he said.
“The F1 chillers assessment average marble score is impressive, the final round bidders who wish to buy the herd and land together will gain the opportunity to have a turn key offering if desired and aligned with all groups.”
McPhee Beef Farms is for sale ‘as a whole’ via Offers to Purchase on Contract (OTP), closing 5pm (AEST) on April 30.
