A moderate cold front continues to slowly move through the southwest third of WA with moderate to heavy falls via thunderstorms along the coast and extending a small way inland but not quite reaching eastern ag areas today and this clears out by the weekend.
The wet weather will be patchier the further inland you go.
Showers along the NSW coast into SE Queensland with the risk of moderate rainfall through today and into the weekend, isolated heavy falls with thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will be quiet, with cold and frosty starts continuing for the southeast inland but sunny weather continuing under a large ridge that is in place.
The drier weather and warmer weather continues for the northern tropics.
The continuation of the ridging and drier weather signal continues for the southeast of the nation through most of next week with the frontal weather coming out of WA sliding south, deflected by the upper ridging leading to the warmer northwest flow, and stable weather bringing about a Spring preview to some areas.
The east coast seeing the last of the influence of the positive SAM phase and this is with the winds veering from the east into the west and northwest, this region of eastern QLD and NSW joining southeast Australia in a below average rainfall signal
The influence of El Nino is present in the medium range forecast charts.
That being said, have you noticed that we are seeing the drier weather becoming more established? The run into the drought developing across the continent, has commenced. While there is a lot of green out the window right now, gradually the soil moisture is on the decline, the rainfall is becoming less frequent week on week for inland areas and temperatures are leaning more above the average in the absence of strong cold outbreaks.
Don’t sleepwalk into the back of the year wondering how did it get so dry, it is starting before your eyes. Don’t limit forecasting the weather to a small window of week to week, it is time to expand your view to seasonal forecasting which is updated frequently at Weather Matters.
