Machinery and clearing sale auctions have been rapidly growing on the AuctionsPlus platform in recent years, with the momentum being sustained into 2022. For the first five months of 2022, a total of 210 sales have been conducted, compared to 156 for the same period last year. In 2021, a total of 468 machinery and clearing sales were held on the platform – a 49% increase on 2020.

Comparing AuctionsPlus user stats for the first five months of 2022, it appears as though serious buyer intentions have jumped, while the number of “tyre kickers” or “rubber neckers” has declined. Serious intentions, signalled by user and bidder connections have risen 7% and 13% respectively, compared to the same period in 2021. In contrast, total catalogue views have slipped 7% year-on-year.

Given the frustratingly long wait times for new items in 2022, there has been strong demand for second-hand items on AuctionsPlus - which has been highlighted through strong clearance rates, averaging 72% clearance across all sales. Looking at some commonly listed item on the platform, “used” Toyota Hilux’ average prices have risen 29% in 2022, to $13,536, up from $10,455, while Honda side-by-side prices are up 35%, to average $19,871.

2022 has seen a wide variety of items offered online, from tractors and quad bikes, to vintage cars, horse drawn carts and McDonald’s memorabilia, potato crates and much more
