The final Tuesday of AuctionsPlus’ commercial sheep and lamb sales for 2021 has seen an excellent number of stock locked-in, with many producers keen to secure sales prior to the holiday break. A catalogued 137,537 sheep and lambs are listed online, with just shy of 96,000 head of lambs. The total weekly listing is 11% higher than last week and 4% lower than the corresponding final week of sales in 2020.
The offering for the week reflects some of the rebound from the rain and flood restricted sales of the previous weeks. Underpinned by the wet season and strong end demand, lamb prices look like finishing 2021 at very competitive levels. The cold, wet spring in many regions has however impacted finished supplies throughout the past two months, while the impact of the disrupted grain harvest may play an interesting role into early 2022.
