Australian White sheep lines have been dominating headlines in recent months, as the surge in demand has been a feature of many market reports, as the breed continues to reach unprecedented levels. This was highlighted on Tuesday in the AuctionsPlus weekly commercial sheep and lamb auctions, when two lines of Australian White SIL ewe lambs from West Wyalong NSW, sold for $988/head.
This is an AuctionsPlus commercial ewe record, smashing the previous record, set by another line of Australian white ewe lambs, by an astounding $328.
These red tag – Tattykeel certified Australian White ewe lambs drew a lot of interest with 188 bids on lot 269 and 195 bids on lot 270 - with the selling price clearing reserve by $390 for both lots. Across the two lots there was bidding from all over the eastern states with one bidder from SA, two from Victoria and 6 bidders from NSW. This was also the first time an Australian White listing was Tattykeel certified, providing buyers with an added level of quality and breeding assurance, as showcased in the number of bids and final price.
Looking to Australian White listings across both sales yesterday, there was 702 head of Pure Australian White ewe listings offered across 18 different lots with all but one lot selling. Prices continue to remain robust with SIL ewes averaging $585 from the 436 head sold, future breeder ewe lambs averaging $450 from the 132 head sold, and station mated ewes averaging $317 for the 91 head sold.
