In today’s AuctionsPlus National Sheep sale, a line of 26 SIL Australian White ewes have again broke the record – selling for $1,210/head. This is the fourth time since June that this record has been broken, with the record rising $222 from the first record set on June 16th.

Brain and Helen Mckelvie (pictured) from Marrar, Riverina NSW, offered a line of 26 SIL Australian White ewes which sold for $1,210/head. These ewes are 11 – 13 months of age, averaged 60.7kg liveweight, are Tattykeel certified and SIL to Tattykeel rams as twins. The assessment states “All rams used on this line were purchased last year from the Tattykeel sale averaging $6,600/head, so they are joined to the most modern genetics. Ewes have been bred out of classed ewes and this drop has been classed again on both frame and shedding ability”.

The line attracted plenty of attention, clearing reserve by $310 and surpassing the previous record by $195/head which was only set a fortnight ago. There was a total of 81 bids placed on the lot by seven different bidders, four from NSW and three from Victoria – with the successful purchaser hailing from Rochester in Victoria.

Issac Hill, from Wagga Regional Livestock, who assessed the line for his father and mother-in-law commented that “the recent market was what pushed Brian and Helen Mcklevie to list their Aussie White ewes on AuctionsPlus…they weren’t chasing the record but had a line of recently SIL ewes to twins that pushed them to see where they were at”. They set a $900 reserve with an expectation that they could go above $1,000/head, but the final price was well above their expectations.

As reported previously the unrelenting demand for Tattykeel certified ewes is electric, with the records only being set for a short period before being toppled as demand for the breed continues to grow. The same vendor had another line of SIL Australian White ewes which were scanned in lamb to singles, selling for $1,040/head. This line would have broken the previous record of $1,015/head if it had not been for their sisters in the same sale. Other Australian White joined ewes in the sale sold from $454 to $567/head and two lines of Australian White ewes and lambs sold for $501 and $869/head.

Last week (Monday 16th August) the Inaugural Doonkami Australian White ram and breeder sale ran on AuctionsPlus with some excellent commercial ewe lamb results. A line of 100 Australian White future breeder ewe lambs sold for a commercial record of $790/head. The lambs were split into lines of 10 head across 10 lots offered as a run out of the gate. Tattykeel certified, these lambs were 35.8kg liveweight and were Feb – Mar 21’ drop.
