The inaugural Go-Getta Kelpie Stud working dog auction hit unprecedented highs over the weekend, breaking the Australian record for the highest average across a working dog sale - with 15 dogs selling to an average of $17,733. Offered by renowned Kelpie breeder and trainer Joe Spicer, the inaugural sale included a unique opportunity for buyers to purchase the mother of the pups from the iconic ABC series, Muster dogs.
Held as an online only sale, the catalogue offered a wide range of types and training levels, from fully trained Kelpies to started pups - ranging in age from six-years-seven-months-old, through to five-months-old. Open for pre-bidding in the week leading up to the sale, the auction concluded with a timer on Sunday, November 20th. Interest in the offering was strong from the offset, with over 4,000 catalogue views achieved before the commencement of pre-bidding, with the conclusion of the auction reaching a total of 13,746 views.
Buyers’ willingness to look far and wide for working dogs was again on show, with a total of 4,282 users logging in to the sale. With 60 active bidders from around Australia, robust competition for the offering resulted in a 100% clearance, with dogs selling to buyers from WA, NSW and Victoria. The top price for the sale hit $28,000, Lot 5 – “Go-Getta Trunk (Mouse)” , which is headed to a local buyer in Victoria. One-year-five-month-old Mouse was the control dog in the ABC hit serious Muster dogs, with the red/tan, female described as a “calm compliant natured yard/cattle dog with plenty of force when needed.”

Second-top price of the sale went to Lot 7 – “Go-Getta Sass (Snazzle), returning $27,000 to a buyer from Western Australia. The two-year-one-month-old, black/tan female, is described as an “intelligent and determined all rounder leaning towards paddock and cattle, with great stamina.”

With six dogs surpassing the sale price of $20,000, another sale highlight was Lot 2 – “Able It”. The four-year-one-month-old black/tan female described as having a “great all-round ability with plenty of bark and force when required”, sold for $25,000 to buyer from Victoria. Lot 1 – “Jones’s Zoey (aka Truce)” sold for $14,000, to a buyer from NSW. The six-year-seven-month-old black/tan female was the mother of the pups used in the ABC series Muster Dogs, described as having a “sweet biddable nature and a pleasure to have around.”
