In its second year, the Lucindale working dog auction held on Sunday 26th September brought heated competition from online buyers.Successful purchasers came from as far as Queensland, highlighting the continued demand for excellent working dogs and buyers’ willingness to search far and wide to secure quality work mates.
The 2022 sale saw 43 kelpie dogs offered, ranging in age from 5½ years to 4 months, with started and well-started abilities appealing to buyers, while trained dogs topped the catalogue. The sale saw 503 users logged in online to watch the pre-work and sale action, with 28 active bidders online competing against 30 registered bidders during the sale – with the sale averaging $6,675/head.
Online activity saw buyers from Victoria, NSW, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia placing bids on 60% of the offering, resulting in 10 dogs (33%) sold to online buyers. Securing top price for the day was Lot 12 ‘Mulga’ selling to an online buyer for $15,500. Offered by Wayne Gelven, the medium sized black and tan dog described as “medium casting, medium eyed dog with good cover and firm hold” finds its new home across the border in Victoria.
The second priced dog for the day also sold to an online buyer, with Lot 5 – “Titania Park Tri” selling for $14,750 to a buyer from Victoria. Offered by Renae Reynolds, Tri is described as “a little firecracker in the yards, backs, barks and works the side of the race”.
Other sale highlights include Lot 45 – “Ryoma Axel” selling for $6,500. Offered by Paula Whitbread, eight-month-old Axel is headed for a 2,000km journey to his new home in Queensland. Another dog heading interstate is Lot 19 – “Jindi Ned” selling for $9,000 to an NSW buyer. Offered by Byron Crawford, Ned is a fully trained dog with experience in the paddock and yards.
