In a first for working dog sales in Queensland, the Central West Working Dog auction held on Saturday 7th May, attracted a wider audience for their sale by interfacing on AuctionsPlus. The sale marked the second dog sale to be interfaced on the platform for 2022 which utilised pre-bidding; allowing online buyers the opportunity to place bids in the lead up to sale day, while the live video stream on the day allowed those online to not miss out on the dog trials and action of sale day.

A total of 27 dogs were catalogued in the sale, ranging in age from three months to five-years-old, with a guest appearance from a 7-week-old pup. Top price of the day was lot 12 “Jack” - a two-and-a-half-year-old Border Collie offered by John Pointon. Jack’s experience mustering and suitability to cattle, sheep and goats saw buyers both online and, on the ground, battle it out, with the fall of the hammer seeing Jack sell to an online buyer from Wandoan, Queensland, for $16,000.

Taking out the second top price for the sale and the top priced female, at $9,500, was lot 11 -“Triple C’S Skye”. The rising two-year-old Border Collie offered by ACL Working Dogs was purchased by an online buyer in Charleville, Queensland.

Online activity was consistent throughout the sale. A total of 527 AuctionsPlus users entered the auction, with 289 of those being registered bidders. 31 users located across six different states placed a total of 113 online bids on 22 lots (81%) in the sale. 12 lots sold online with the majority of dogs remaining intra-state, while several are headed across the border to NSW - with the longest journey being 1,630km to Nimmitabel, NSW.
