Big results are expected across Friday’s AuctionsPlus cattle sales, with over 16,300 head being offered across the three main sales - Weaner & Yearling Sale 1 (9am EST), Weaner & Yearling Sale 2 (10am EST) and the Eastern States Cattle Sale (11am EST).
With an additional 11 stud and special sales throughout the day, the final Friday of winter 2021 sales are sure to have a “spring in their step”. Good falls of rain across a wide area of south eastern Australia in the past week has only added to the anticipation for a bumper spring season – emphasised by the excellent bull sales results and an EYCI that continues to hang above 1,000c/kg cwt.
The six-week run of higher year-on-year weekly offerings comes to an end this week, with the catalogued 16,300 head down 5% on the corresponding week in 2020. For August 2021, total cattle offered was up 25% year-on-year, at just under 70,000 head. This week’s AuctionsPlus offerings are still comparatively high for late winter, again signalling the seemingly unbreakable desire of producers to capture the record high prices.
Pre-auction enquiries in the last 24 hours continue to be very high for the lighter steer and heifer lines. Last week’s 200-280kg categories reporting a 97% and 90% clearance rate for steers and heifers, respectively, with a combined 2,581 head offered. With another geographically dispersed offering this week, lots to watch include:
