The Great Eastern Brahman Female Sale has concluded with a standout online purchase of $50,000, capturing attention as Brahman Week kicks off.
Although not officially part of the Brahman Week sales, the Female auction benefits from the large crowd in town, drawing both on-site and online buyers, interfaced through the AuctionsPlus platform.
The Helmsman-style auction took place at the Rockhampton Showgrounds in Rockhampton, Queensland, featuring 27 registered Brahman heifers from eight vendors.
The sale showcased both red and grey heifers, along with four semen packages, highlighting some of Australia’s top Brahman genetics available this spring. A high clearance rate of 96% was achieved, with 25 out of 27 females sold, fetching an average price of $8,880.
The sale’s top heifer, MOUNTAIN SPRINGS SYDNEY (Lot 11), was offered by the Mollenhagen family of Mountain Springs Brahmans, Monto, Queensland. The heifer sold for $50,000 to Ruby Park Brahmans, based at Goomboorian, Queensland.
The top-selling heifer has been described as “an outstanding clean polled heifer, out of one of our leading donor cows”. The vendors praised her quality, adding, “she is an extremely soft heifer showing tremendous length and oozes class and style”.
Business Development (RMA Network) and Events Manager at AuctionsPlus, Carly Gaukroger, attended the sale to represent online bidders.
Mrs Gaukroger described the atmosphere as “exciting”, noting the strong competition both online and on-site.
“The heifer attracted spirited bidding right from the start. In the end, it came down to one bidder online and one on the floor,” Mrs Gaukroger said.
She also highlighted the popularity of the event, adding, “The Great Eastern Brahman Female Sale is a great way to wrap up day one of Brahman Week.
“The Helmsman-style auction at the Rockhampton Showgrounds offered fantastic hospitality and a social atmosphere."
Online bidding action was rife throughout the sale, securing 17 out of the 34 lots on offer. Nearly every lot attracted online interest, with 29 out of the 34 lots receiving online bids.
The sale remained competitive throughout, underscoring the demand for premium Brahman genetics this season.
