In today’s Eastern States Cattle Sale, a rare offering of sexed PTIC heifers sold to strong demand, as competition from five bidders pushed prices to top at $3,700/head. Targeted marketing of foetal sexed PTIC breeders provides a unique opportunity for buyers looking to fast track breeding numbers.

Offered by vendors JAD Agriculture, the total offering of 140 Angus and Ultrablack/Angus heifers consisted of six lots, with 77 head PTIC to Speckle Park bulls, while 63 head were artificially inseminated to sexed female semen from JAD Napoleon N31. Demand for the guaranteed “two-for-one” breeding articles was strong, pushing the 63 AI heifers with sexed female semen to an average of $3,593/head - $413 above the reserve price. Lot 220 topped the offering with the 21-22-month-old heifers selling for $3,700/head.

Buyers’ willingness to pay for quality genetics was on display, with the unsexed offering selling to equally strong demand as their sisters, resulting in the 77 head averaging $3,420/head - $440 above reserve.

Today’s listing was not the first time sexed PTIC offerings have sold on AuctionsPlus, with Shacorrahdalu Angus offering 96 PTIC Angus heifers with foetal sexed pregnancies back in August 2021. Heightened restocking demand in 2021 contributed to the PTIC heifers, which were foetal sexed with female progeny, sell to a 5% premium over their male counterparts and 9% premium over the unsexed PTIC heifers. The PTIC heifers sold in todays sale, which are expected to calve down 90%+ female progeny, delivered a 5% premium over the unsexed PTIC heifers.
