In the wake of the largest week of commercial sheep and lamb sales in the history of AuctionsPlus, offerings have eased back this week, at 132,725 head across the two sales. While back 23% on last week, numbers this week are 20% above the same week in 2020.
The Tuesday National Sheep Sale scheduled to begin at 2pm EDST has a total of 47,419 head listed across 264 lots. Despite a drop in listings this week, the sheep sale hosts yet another large offering of NSM Merino ewes, with a total of 19,738 head listed in the sale – 42% of the total sheep sale catalogue. With the category averaging $46 higher last week at $225/head it will be interesting to see if there will be a correction – pending buyer demand and the quality of the respective offerings.
In the National Lamb Sale scheduled for 1pm EDST, a total of 85,306 head will be offered across 251 lots. The flow of numbers out of SA has steadied this week as a total of 33,968 head of new season lambs have been listed out of that state, following an exponential increase in numbers last week. S.W.
