Rockingham Santa Gertrudis sets new stud record with $75,000 sale-topper

The week ending Friday, October 3, saw another strong run of stud sales interfaced through AuctionsPlus, with several standout results across the country. Here are some of the highlights.

 

Rockingham Santa Gertrudis 17th Annual Sale

The Rockingham Santa Gertrudis Stud has set a new benchmark at its 17th Annual Sale, held at Tara Station, Condobolin, NSW, with a $75,000 sale-topper.

The record-setting result highlighted a strong overall performance for the Hague family, who sold 40/41 bulls to gross $955,450 and average $15,525, lifting $4,575 on last year’s figure.

The $75,000 top-priced bull was a 23-month-old son of Strathmore Quartz Q550 out of Rockingham R61. Weighing 804kg, he scanned 11mm and 19mm over the rib and rump, recorded a 135 square centimetre eye muscle area, 6.9% intramuscular fat and achieved an average daily gain of 1.11kg.

Queensland demand was particularly strong, with about one-third of the draft heading north of the border.

The sale also drew strong online participation, with 204 logins and seven successful AuctionsPlus buyers securing seven bulls. AuctionsPlus played a significant role in driving competition, with bidding opening at $26,000 online to set the tone for the sale.

 

Lunar Brangus & Ultrablack Bull Sale

To Comet, Queensland, where the Lunar Brangus & Ultrablack Bull Sale achieved standout results with 66/68 bulls sold to achieve a 97% clearance rate. The sale averaged $14,621, with a Brangus bull topping the sale at $100,000.

The top price was paid by Hewitt Agriculture for Lunar Urgent U285 (PP), described by the vendors as “another young sire that has sire duties written all over him...one you must have a look at", according to its catalogue description. 

Lunar Urgent U285, weighed in at 854kg, his intramuscular fat scan was 5.9 per cent with 40 centimetre scrotum, 80pc motility and 75pc morphology semen.

The two year old bull is sired by Pheasant Creek Mako M150 (PP) and out of Telpara Hills Miss Vin Diesel 911K17 (P).

Marellan Shorthorns Bred For Bos Indicus Cows Bull Sale

Further north, the Marellan Shorthorns Bred for Bos Indicus Cows Bull Sale at Emerald, Queensland, also delivered solid results. The sale closed with 89% clearance with 49/61 bulls selling for an average of $11,918 and topping at $36,000 for Lot 21.

Online bidders were activie across 18 lots, however three successful buyers secured three bulls averaging $13,333 and topping at $18,000 for the opening lot.
