Where is the hotspot for your breed in the inaugural ”AuctionsPlus Breed Hoofprint”?
Utilising the aggregation of several years of detailed transaction data through the AuctionsPlus platform, the inaugural “AuctionsPlus Breed Hoofprint” report showcases the indicative location of purebred commercial cattle in Australia. The top ten breeds for listings on AuctionsPlus so far in 2022 have been included in the analysis: including Angus, Brahman, Hereford, Droughtmaster, Santa Gertrudis, Friesian, Brangus, Charbray, Shorthorn and Charolais.
The catalyst for the analysis was an initial investigation into the volume of “Northern” Bos Indicus cattle purchased by NSW producers since 2020, as the herd rebuild raced into gear following the breaking of a three-year drought in the south. Reflected through the significant increases in purchases of purebred and crossbred Northern breeds of cattle in 2020 and 2021, and in increased listings of purebred cattle in 2022, the “Breed Hoofprint” delivers a visual representation of the fluidity of the Australian cattle market.
Just as a rising tide lifts all boats, so does a run of wet years in the cattle market for all breeds. Indexed price comparisons from 2016 to 2022 for each breed against the EYCI are included in the report, highlighting the variability each breed has against the “general market”.
