While Friday the 13th may be an omen in some instances, it is expected to be all good news for tomorrow’s ten AuctionsPlus cattle sales. Large offerings again for the weekly Weaner and Yearling sale has seen it split into two sales, with the northern focused offerings in sale 1 commencing at 9am (EST), while sale 2 kicks off at 10am (EST). From a slightly smaller Tasmanian sale, through to several exclusive bull sales, the Pre-Auctions views for the week have been very high, with recent price levels expected to be maintained.
Tomorrow’s sales will be the continuation of higher year-on-year numbers through the two largest sales – the Weaner and Yearling sale and Eastern States Cattle sale (commencing at 11am EST). This will be the fourth consecutive week that Friday sale numbers have exceeded the corresponding week in 2020 by over 40%. Indeed, for the past four weeks, year-on-year numbers have been up 44.6%, 49%, 41.8% and 42.6% – which must be more than a lucky coincidence. Further investigation and feedback of the offering numbers for the past month continues to come back to one point from vendors…” too high to resist”.
The main auctions success factor hinges upon clearance rates, which have been very strong throughout the same four-week period. As the unrelenting demand from buyers continues, the buy side of the market could also potentially be summed up as “too high to resist” - just this time in reference to future feed growth once the warmer weather kicks in.
