INDICATORS: EYCI on three-week streak heading into spring

It’s that time of the week when we check in on some key indicators of performance in the livestock markets.

The Eastern States Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) gained a further 36.47c this week to be 972.98c/kg cwt by Friday morning. It was the third week of increases and an 8.66c increase for the month. It’s 79.00c higher than the same time last year.

The National Young Cattle Indicator (NYCI), which reflects national markets and online transactions, lifted this week, by 20.08c/kg to 499.92c/kg on Friday morning. It is up 0.87c on last month and up 26.96c on the same time last year.

The National Feeder Heifer Indicator (NFHI), which offers a dedicated lens into the feeder heifer market, lifted and was sitting at 468.84c/kg on Friday morning. It’s up 17.58c on last week and down 7.63c on last month.

The Processor Cow Indicator was 379.88c/kg on Friday morning, up 10.65c on last week and 5.23c for the month. The top three contributors to this indicator were Roma, Dalby and Wagga. 

Let’s turn to the sheep and lamb markets.

The AuctionsPlus Restocker Lamb Indicator (ARLI) eased 99c to close at 1407c/kg cwt this week, losing last week's gains.

The Light Lamb Indicator gained 22.57c this week to be 1,055.52c on Friday morning, which was 13.12c down on last month and 86.18c up on last year.

The Heavy Lamb Indicator lifted by 28.74c over the past week to be sitting at 1,127.14c/kg cwt. That represents an increase of 14.30c over the past month and it's 3.92c lower than the same time last year.
