AuctionsPlus National Goat listings for August fell by 39% from July, in line with commercial sheep and cattle supply trends, with only 4,816 head listed.Sales during auction run-times increased this month to 37%, while post sale negotiations remain integral to securing a sale, with 63% sold via the met reserve, or update to sold function.
The lower supply registered through August aided a higher clearance rate and facilitated price rises across several categories, as confidence across the livestock market started to rebound. A 57% clearance rate was averaged for the month - up from 46% in July, while Rangeland does rose $15 and hit an 85% clearance.
NSW was again the highest listing state in August, accounting for 69%, or 3,316 head offered - with Central Western NSW listing 1,797 head, followed by Western NSW with 692 head. Western NSW secured the largest number of goats, purchasing 960 head, followed closely by Western Queensland with 826 head.
Rangeland bucks saw the largest offering this month, achieving a 53% clearance rate for the 1,600 head and averaging $80/head. Boer/Rangeland bucks sold to a 78% clearance rate across the 423 head, averaging $128 – a rise of $53/head. A thin offering of Boer bucks sold to a 94% clearance for the 96 head offered and averaged $267/head.
The doe side of the market reported price rises across two out of the three categories for the 2,209 head offered. Boer does lifted $29 from last month – averaging $205, and hitting a 76% clearance for the 442 head offered. From Richmond, Queensland, a line of 51 Boer cross does aged 8-10 months and averaging 39kg lwt, sold for $300/head to a buyer in Barcaldine, Queensland.
Boer/Rangeland does fell back $99 from last month, to average $92/head. The 642 head sold to a 28% clearance, with prices ranging from $80-$104/head. One line of Rangeland does sold this month for $120/head. From Mount Hope, NSW, 960 Rangeland does which ranged in age from 1-6 years and averaged 34.8kg lwt, were secured by a buyer from Cobar, NSW.
