Shorthorns shine amid southern stud sale success

The past week’s stud sales delivered strong results across multiple breeds nationwide, with AuctionsPlus interfacing 23 sales—further cementing the momentum of the autumn selling season. However,  it was a battle of the south that dominated buyer demand this week, with numerous studs achieving high clearance rates and five-figure prices for their seedstock. Below are some of the standout results from across the country.

The Bayview Shorthorn and Angus on-property sale achieved the top-priced bull interfaced through AuctionsPlus this week. The sale topper, a Shorthorn bull named Bayview Hipwood U48 (Lot 5), was purchased for $32,000.

Online buyers were active throughout, securing eight lots across three successful bidders. In the breakdown, 28 of 41 Shorthorn bulls sold, averaging $10,553, while 29 of 35 PTIC heifers sold at an average of $1,600. The genetics offering also performed well, with both semen packages on offer selling for an average of $750.

Earlier in the week, the Alpine Angus Autumn Bull Sale fetched a top price of $30,000 for Lot 3, Alpine Goalkeeper U358. Online activity hummed with eight lots secured to active online bidders across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

Online buyers showed a spirited bidding activity with the top online purchase Alpine Paratrooper U270 (lot 13), purchased for $26,000. The top online purchase was sired by MILLAH MURRAH PARATROOPER P15. The sale closed with an 86% clearance rate and an average price of $9,377.

The Rennylea Angus Autumn Bull Sale continued its strong reputation in 2025, with bulls selling to five states and solid online engagement. A total of 128 out of 132 bulls sold, reaching a top price of $26,000 twice, with an average of $12,718.

The equal top-priced bull, Rennylea U574, weighed 766 kilograms and sold for $26,000 to Hopewood Pastoral Co, Coolac, NSW.

Online bidders were highly active, with AuctionsPlus securing 29 lots across 17 successful bidders and recording 283 bids throughout the sale. The top online purchase, Rennylea U85 (Lot 25), sold for $20,000 to a New South Wales buyer.

Volume buyers included Spinifex Pastoral, Swan Hill, Victoria, who purchased 12 bulls to a top of $20,000, averaging $14,500. Independent agent Kevin Graham, Brisbane, Queensland, secured 11 bulls for four northern clients in Prairie, Richmond, Injune, and Charters Towers. This included seven bulls for Sylvester Pastoral Co, Arcadia Station, Injune, Queensland, with purchases topping at $18,000 and averaging $13,714.
