Weekly Cattle Comments - 11.03.22

Written by AuctionsPlus | Mar 11, 2022 5:32:46 AM

It was another mixed week of results through AuctionsPlus commercial cattle sales, with total numbers slipping below 21,000 head for the first time since early February, hitting 19,127 head for the week. A slightly weaker light cattle market was offset by increased feeder steer prices, while increased supplies, quality and breeding were the main influences upon a cheaper breeder market.

The young cattle market was marginally softer this week for all but the heaviest lines, as the overall clearance rate edged higher, favoring the three heaviest categories. A significant reduction in 400kg+ lines, at only 506 head contributed to an improved clearance rate, hitting 91% for the week, while the average for the week jumped $66, to $2,436/head.
