Four properties totalling 2.4 million hectares in Northern Australia are being sold.
Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Agriculture and its joint venture partner S Kidman & Co has announced its intention to sell Brunchilly Station in the Northern Territory's Barkly Tablelands, Glengyle, Durrie and Naryilco, in Queensland's Channel country.
Acting CEO of Hancock Agriculture and Kidman Cattle Co, Adam Giles said it was “advanced” in the sale process.
“Following recent rainfall and substantial flooding, all stations are enjoying excellent seasonal conditions,” he said.
“Since acquisition, the stations have benefitted from an extensive capital improvement program, including a digital communications system, shading yards, troughs, and parts of paddocks, as well as new fences, solar panels and watering systems. Animal welfare also continues to be a company-wide priority “happy cattle are healthy cattle” and the stock have accordingly benefitted from this dedicated approach,” he added.
‘Glengyle’ is home to Sidney Kidman's Tree of Knowledge. It became associated with Sir Sidney Kidman and the vast pastoral empire he established in the Australian interior in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Eucalyptus tree is believed to be the tree where Sidney Kidman would camp when contemplating the development of his pastoral empire in Western Queensland. He purchased the property in 1913.
In October 2021, the companies sold off 25,000 square kilometres worth of land in Central Australia. So adding in these latest four properties that’s a total of almost 50,000 sq km or a larger land mass than the size of Switzerland.
