An almost 68,000 hectare station 80 kilometres west of Tibooburra has been sold to a local farmer.
Lake Stewart Station lies 80 kilometres west of Tibooburra and 390km north of Broken Hill and has been owned by Kelvin Westbrook for 40 years.
The property is suitable for both cattle and sheep and thanks to increased rainfall this year is covered with plenty of feed.
Troy Hartman from Nutrien Harcourts NSW said the bulk of the interest was local farmers.
“We initially had phone calls from all over Australia, but most of the inspections were locals,” he said. Mr Hartman would not disclose the sale price but said it was between $30 and $40 an acre.
“In the end it was sold to a local farmer,” he said. “It’s about on par with what’s sold up in the area over the past few years.”
The new owners can stock the property immediately. It has a carrying capacity of 10,000 dry sheep equivalents plus 200 breeding cows and followers.
Despite the ongoing floods out west, the bitumen upgrade of the Silver City Highway between Broken Hill and Tibooburra has made the location a lot more accessible.
