Meet our team - Hannah Kermode

Home for Hannah Kermode has always been the families property in Walcha, away from the big city lights. She never dreamt that one day she’d be working in the middle of Sydney’s, such is the journey from Walcha to AuctionsPlus.

From high school to university Hannah spent her time skipping from country town to country town, finally returning to Walcha. In a bid to kickstart her career in the livestock sector, Hannah moved home and spent the summer doing all those fun summer jobs – drenching and backlining sheep, and spraying thistles.

A chance encounter during a presentation in Armidale with then AuctionsPlus CEO Anna Speer, Han took the next chance she had to head to Sydney for a meeting, ultimately starting as a Market Operator in 2018.

“It took a long time to adjust being based in the middle of the CBD”

Moving from her role as a market operator into the Accreditation & Integrity space, today Han spends a large quantity of her time coordinating and helping agents from their first interaction to running training sessions to help them best utilise the platform.

“I really enjoy that aspect of making sure people have the right training and skills to use AuctionsPlus”

“For me, it’s been really important to make sure, despite the increasing demand, that we still have that level of service and care for our customers that we have always had”

Reflecting on her first couple of years with the business, particularly 2019, Hannah reflects on the challenges of the drought.

“When I was really involved in regional engagement, I had plenty of conversations with farmers & agents and really got to know them”

“Some of those conversations were really emotional, some of the people I was chatting with weren’t doing all that well.

“I think it gave me the grounding for my now role in Integrity. I spend a lot of my day on the phone, and I believe that giving people the time and respect to understand their situation is crucial to AuctionsPlus growing and maintaining a safe & trusted platform.”

Coming full circle to today, Hannah still loves the adrenaline of sale day, a favourite (and nerve-wracking memory) coming from the Wagyu conference where she was bidding for an international bidder on a heifer that broke the $200,000 mark!
