Artist, agronomist and agricultural communicator – Warren’s Penny Heuston is a woman of many talents as the success of her art business, the Heuston Herd, only goes to show.
Creating unique paintings, prints and cards featuring anything from Brahmans to birds and more, Penny’s inspiration for the Heuston Herd collection stems back to her university days as an agricultural science student and a short stint spent working on an English dairy farm.
However, it was only recently that Penny put paint to paper and started her business.
“I reckon I’ve only been painting for seven or eight years – it’s something I came into late,” Penny said.
“In Warren we have the most brilliant art teacher, Jude Fleming, and so one day I just thought I’d go along to her class to paint for fun.
“My painting and business grew from there with a lot of support from my customers, Buy from the Bush and others.”

Penny’s art featured on the AuctionsPlus Christmas card this year as she continues to be a valued supplier of the business.
“For the most recent Beef Week, we created AuctionsPlus stubby holders with the Heuston Herd on them,” Penny said.
“It was a bit of a thrill to be asked to be part of that and I’m pleased to continue to provide AuctionsPlus with my art this year.”
While juggling her art alongside her other work can be testing, Penny relishes the challenge and has great plans for the Heuston Herd in the future.
“The support from all over has enabled me to run my business alongside being an agronomist and an agricultural communicator, which is a really interesting balance,” Penny said.
“I spend a lot of time converting scientific messages into farmer friendly talk as an agronomist – but then I can also just go crazy and put paint on the canvas.”
