Every now and then a sale comes along like no other. For more than fifty years, the vendor has been rescuing items from clearing sales, saving them from the scrap pile and in itself archiving a piece of history.
This Saturday the 13th of November, the Pipkorn Machinery auction kicks off, showcasing some of the rich history and the progression of agriculture in Australia. With some incredibly unique items, the sale has enlisted onsite security for more than the last month to keep an eye on the assortment of lots.
Elders Horsham Agent Mat Taylor and his team of five have spent months out at the property, lining up the machinery row by row, taking plenty of photos and ensuring that the information requested by potential bidders is available.
“The photos in themselves were a massive task, it took days to take the 8,000 photos needed to make sure we got every lot at the right angle” he said
With some items dating back to the 1800s, it hasn’t just been the older demographic interested, Matt has been blown away by the interest from younger people coming along to inspect in person or send requests through to the office.
“We’re seeing the younger generation coming in and really looking at owning a piece of history, it’s really exciting!”
“This sale really shows the evolution of agriculture in Australia from the 1800’s. We have items here with steel wheels through to machines from more recent decades, it’s remarkable to see just how tough farming used to be”
Following with a keen eye, the hard work won’t quite finish once the hammer drops, the next massive tasks will be organising the logistics and ensuring that the items are collected and on their way to their new homes, whether that be in Australia or overseas.
