Australia’s Future Farmers

Written by #ThankAFarmerForYourNextMeal | Nov 17, 2020 1:21:37 AM

My fondest childhood memories are all from growing up on our family farm west of Forbes in central west New South Wales. Whether it was helping dad move a mob of sheep, weighing cattle and writing down their weights, or helping him with the irrigation (mainly by holding the torch at that stage), these were all activities that majority of Australian’s will never get to experience in their lifetime.

I think many would agree with me that there is something about growing up on the land that sticks with you for life. For me personally, I loved seeing the satisfaction that one could get after taking a raw set of inputs and converting them into a marketable final product that could be consumed by millions all over the world. I loved following the process.

Last year we ran the #WhenIGrowUpIWantToBeAFarmer social media campaign which was aimed at recognising how important young boys and girls are for the future of the Australian agricultural industry whilst also acknowledging the level of passion these youngsters have for the sector. Below you’ll see some of the amazing entries and even some of the finalists from this competition.

This week we’d love you all to say thanks to those aspiring boys and girls and to let them know how much you appreciate their help.

@THEFARMERSWIFELIFE  “When I grow up, I want to be a farmer”

@THEFARMERSWIFELIFE  “Racing the clock to get the job done”

@OURTRIBEOFGALS "You know they’ve been missing each other when she’s in her daddy’s arms before the dust settles”

@ALISONRUTLEDGE "Never too early to watch and learn”

@KELLY_TYACK "Someone was excited to finally get amongst the sheep!”

AuctionsPlus x Thank A Farmer

Together we have one goal – to showcase where Australian food and fibre comes from, who makes it and how it’s made. The Thank A Farmer For Your Next Meal brand aims to promote the Australian agricultural industry and its primary producers to a wider audience in order to close the continually widening gap between producer and consumer, city and bush.

Have you got a picture that you think demonstrates this or would go well on our page?
