Purchasing real estate is difficult when you live locally, but for farming families located hours from their intended new city home, it can feel impossible.

With six kids and boarding school in Sydney more than 400km away, Walcha couple Anthea Macpherson and Jim Nivison realised a city home away from home was just what they needed.

They knew about buying rural land in their local market, but were out of their depth when it came to buying a unit in the city.

That’s where buyers’ agent and property manager Rose & Jones stepped in to guide them and give some sage advice about city real estate markets.

“We gave Rose & Jones some specifics – we wanted three good-sized bedrooms, we wanted to be in the Eastern suburbs and wanted it near public transport,” Ms Macpherson said.

“We had no idea what the market is doing or what value for money is there, we only have rural land, but they’re on top of all of that.”

That’s also an advantage for the busy family, with Ms Macpherson a journalist, and Mr Nivison a beef cattle farmer.

Ms Macpherson said the process was made easy by a live spreadsheet that Rose & Jones updated as properties became available or sold.

After this homework and narrowing down selections, they found the perfect unit on just the second day of inspections.

Better still, the agents negotiated the deal for them, so the farming family felt that they not only got the home they wanted, they also got the best deal possible, and without the stress.

Ms Macpherson is pleased she didn’t try and find a property on her own, instead opting to go straight to Rose & Jones for assistance.

“Vedors have agents, so I can’t see why buyers don’t have them too,” Ms Macpherson said.

The unit has been a “gamechanger” for the family because they visit Sydney every two to three weeks.

"We now don’t need to pack a bag, we just jump in the car and go.”

Rose & Jones assists time-poor parents who have children in boarding school who wish to purchase property in Sydney as a bolt hole for when they visit or for their children to stay in.

The company sources, inspects, negotiates, facilitates exchange and more on clients’ behalf. They can also lease and manage investment properties.
