Palgrove will offer its entire show team at Beef24, with the breed also set to step into the show ring for the first time at the highly anticipated event.
Since 2009, Palgrove has pioneered the Ultrablack breed, which retains the meat quality and fertility of the Angus breed and the heat tolerance and adaptability of the Brangus genetics.
“This is the first time we have offered our top-end Ultrablack females, in the past we have only sold bigger runs on AuctionsPlus,” Palgrove’s General Manager, Ben Noller, said.
The “First of Our Finest” Ultrablack Sale will be held on Thursday, May 9, at Beef24. The sale will be interfaced with AuctionsPlus for those unable to attend the Rockhampton event.
Palgrove hasn’t shown cattle for more than a decade and Beef will be the first time the Ultrablack breed has been exhibited in the show ring.
“This is a one-off for us to support this significant occasion and we will sell our entire show team at Beef Australia at 5:30pm following the interbred judging in centre ring,” Mr Noller said.
The show team consists of 12 females and five bulls from the Ultrablack line.
The bulls have been selected out of the lead of the sale team, which normally would be sold at Palgrove’s annual sale in September.

So, who will be buying?
“We believe the bull portion of the sale will attract leading bull breeding operations, whether they are stud or top end commercial breeders looking to breed bulls for their own programs,” Mr Noller said.
“The female portion will give stud breeders a great opportunity to add top-end females to their herd.
“We have a mix of our best genetics selected from the top of our herd. They really are the type of females you could base a program around.”
Palgrove is one of Australia’s largest seedstock producers, featuring adaptable, functional Charolais and Ultrablack cattle.
It aims to provide superior, well-researched, high-performance genetics, backed by science and data that consistently improves profitability for commercial producers.
If you miss out during Beef24, there will be an opportunity to acquire both Charolais and Ultrablack bulls at the 2024 Hunter Valley Bull Sale in June, as well as the Palgrove Annual Bull Sale in September.
“Our Hunter Valley sale at Scone is shaping up well. We will offer 45 Charolais bulls and 20 Ultrablacks,” Mr Noller said.
The early sale date in June gives those who wish to join early an opportunity to purchase bulls.
“We also have a loyal following in the area and enjoy heading down to Scone each year. Bulls in the past have gone to Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia and as far north as Hughenden,” he said.
The Palgrove Annual Bull Sale will auction Charolais, Ultrablack and Brangus bulls at its new Sale Centre “Glen Wilga”, Chinchilla, Queensland.
The spotlight may be on Palgrove’s Ultrablack line at Beef24, however the stud also remains one of Australia’s leading registered Charolais breeder with more than a 55-year commitment.
“The Charolais bull is still difficult to beat in a cross-breeding situation in terms of ‘bang for buck’ in a single cross over tropical females in the north or British and Euro females in the south, the kilos produced per hectare soon erode any purebred premiums,” Mr Noller said.
