The topic of the month amongst producers is around the Federal Government On Farm Connectivity Program (OFCP). We know opportunities like this don't knock on your door every day, and if you've been waiting for the right time to purchase agtech, here it is.
The grant is supported by the Australian Government with funding of $30 million over two years and $15 million up for grabs in round 1.
This funding has come to change how primary producers carry out their day-to-day routine, increasing their level of connectivity, productivity, and safety across their property.
Eligible primary producers can claim rebates ranging from a minimum of $3,000 to a maximum of $30,000 (up to 50% off) equipment through approved equipment suppliers.
There are 79 equipment suppliers who are involved in the program including Elders, Bushman Tanks, Farmbot and Optiweigh. The full list of suppliers is available at infrastructure.gov.au/ofcp.
This equipment ranges from sensors, pump controllers, boosters, training costs, and other automative technologies. All to accommodate different primary producers in agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
The application process is relatively simple, as the supplier handles the rebate application, and there is no need to fork out cash upfront. Designed to boost the growth of the sector, making it the perfect time for primary producers to invest in technology.
Take Farmbot for example – producers can receive near real-time alerts and insights into their water levels, rainfall, flow and pressure rates. Pump controls can automate pumping activities based on predetermined set levels or be activated by a single click on a smart phone. By removing manual water checks, producers can reduce labour and diesel costs, which we know are not cheap, and focus their time to more value adding tasks.
If the neighbour next door isn't onto the funding yet, you can bet they'll be jumping on the bandwagon soon. Remember this funding will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
