Working Dog Auctions interfaced on AuctionsPlus continued to go from strength to strength in 2022, with a total of 12 sales utilising online connectivity - increasing from 8 sales 2021. Positive results across the board have highlighted the established trust sale organisers place in online platforms, showcased by strong online purchasing activity. Held in conjunction with AuctionsPlus since 2016, while also being the longest running working dog sale, the annual RMA Working Dog sale in 2022 registered strong sale results with online activity increasing by 26% on last year. The sale featured 68 bidders placing over 250 bids across 98% of the catalogue - seeing 47% of the catalogue selling online.
Online activity wasn’t the only stand out of 2022, with a new record price set and average prices increasing year-on-year. The Capree Poll Merino & Invitational working dog sale, set the new working dog record – reaching a top of $49,000, surpassing the previous record by $13,800. Additionally, the inaugural Go-Getta Kelpie stud auction set a new Australian record for the highest average across a working dog sale, selling 15 dogs to an average of $17,733.

#2 Bullseye! Stud cattle sales rein in new records.
The 2022 bull selling season was a record year in more ways than one, but a standout was the tumbling records returned across several breeds. From Charolais to Shorthorn and Red Angus, the AuctionsPlus record books registered seven breed topping results. Highlights include the record Charolais bull price breaking not once, but twice, with six bulls selling over the previous record of $83,000 set in 2017. The initial record was broken at the annual Palgrove sale on the 9th of September - hitting $115,000 before being toppled in the Moongool Charolais & Simbrah Bull sale which saw lot 4 Moongool “Revolution” return $265,000. The Santa Gertrudis breed followed a similar trend, seeing the record broken four times across September to end at $250,000 for lot 7 in the Yarrawonga Santa Gertrudis sale. Records didn’t stop with prices in 2022, as total user connections across stud sales reached just shy of 100,000, surpassing 2021’s connection record by 24%.

#3 Traffic jam? Record user logins for a single day.
Amidst the peak of stud season, Tuesday October 4th saw the largest number of individual user connections to the AuctionsPlus website, reaching 24,893. The online sales scheduled for the day included eight different stud sheep sales, as well as AuctionsPlus weekly commercial sheep sales, a clearing sale, and a stud cattle sale. Strong results and large yarding’s on the day aided the boost in online user activity.
#4 AuctionsPlus multivendor clearing sale: a great opportunity to fill the stocking!
With the AuctionsPlus multi-vendor clearing sale moving from a monthly to fortnightly sale, 2022 resulted in a much larger number of lots and online statistics, as the sale continues to go from strength to strength. In 2022 a total of 23 AuctionsPlus multi-vendor sales occurred - more than doubling last year’s total. Transaction value of all auctions grossed over $8 million in auction takings, while catalogue views averaged 20,251 and connections averaged 3,069 users per sale - a 19% and 44% increase on last year, respectively. Lot 1 in the multivendor sale on the 5th of December included a fixed wing plane which sold for $165,000.

#5 Bucking bull sale rounds up interstate buyers:
The Diamond H Rodeo Co Bucking Bull sale interfaced on AuctionsPlus on December 8th saw bulls sell to buyers across NSW, Victoria, and Queensland. With names such as “Flavio”, “Taco”, “Crumpet” and “Ferdinand”, the catalogue attracted plenty of attention with 7,712 catalogue views and over 200 users logging in on sale day. A highlight of the sale included Lot 9 “Sniper” a ‘big, strong and athletic’ composite bull which sold for $6,100 to a buyer from Queanbeyan, NSW.

#6 Inaugural Howard Gardner Award recognises service and commitment to AuctionsPlus.
The inaugural Howard Gardner Award was received by Col Thexton, IRA Pemberton, WA. Created to recognize service and commitment to AuctionsPlus, Col demonstrates the values of innovation, loyalty, humility, and community. As an early adopter and key advocate of AuctionsPlus, Col played a key role in driving knowledge and uptake of the platform in Western Australia. His success as a Level 1 AuctionsPlus assessor since 1990, coupled with his persistence to improve the marketing system for his clients and cattle has contributed to his recognition for the Howard Gardner award in 2022. #7 A place to call Ho Ho Ho-me: Property Auctions reap impressive returns.
A total of 87 property auctions were held on AuctionsPlus in 2022. Highlights included a record property sale in the NSW Snowy Mountains, where the 1,900 hectare “South Bukalong” in Bombala sold for an impressive $16.05 million, or $3,384/acre. Another standout result included the 8,788 hectare property “Kopje” in North West NSW, which sold for $5.2 million, or $239/acre – surpassing both agent and vendor expectations.
#8 Christmas shopping in September? Record number of auctions in a day.
Friday, 2nd September was the largest sale day for AuctionsPlus in 2022, with a total of 30 auctions held across the day. Dominated by cattle sales, the day was packed with eleven stud cattle sales interfaced online, seven stud sheep sales, three saleyard interface sales and three machinery sales, in addition to the weekly commercial Friday cattle sales. The day sat just three sales behind the AuctionsPlus record of 33 sales in a day registered in September 2021.
#9 Baa humbug: biggest single vendor listings.
The single largest vendor listing in a commercial AuctionsPlus sheep sale consisted of 20,000 Jun/Jul Merino wether lambs from Hay, NSW. Offered on Tuesday, 4th October, the wether lambs were drafted four ways and split across ten run-out-the-gate lots. The offering sold to strong demand, reaching a top of $115/head and averaging $97/head, with lots traveling across NSW and interstate into Queensland.
#10 “Buy Now” feature puts jingle bells on for buyers
2022 saw the AuctionsPlus ‘Buy Now’ feature continue to be adopted, with a total of 63,338 head sold using the function, or 370 individual lots - a 14% increase on 2021. Commercial sheep took out the top spot for the sale type, with 208 lots sold, with crossbred lambs and SIL Merino ewes the most popular categories on offer. 157 cattle lots were sold via ‘Buy Now’ over the year, dominated by PTIC heifers. The ‘Buy Now’ feature didn’t just stop at cattle and sheep, with commercial goat offerings also utilising the option – resulting in five lots sold via the feature.
#11 Christmas is a time for giving: Charity Auctions raise $1.3 million in 2022.
A total of 46 charity auctions were interfaced with AuctionsPlus in 2022 - a 360% increase on 2021. A total gross of $1,337,471 was raised across all charity sales. Highlights included the “Campdraft for a Cure” sale which raised $195,250 for the SynGAP research fund. AuctionsPlus online buyers accounted for 71% of purchases for the sale. Another charity highlight included the Walsh Foundation Charity Auction, held as an online only sale in November, which raised $97,170 with all lots sold to online buyers.
#12 Record prices for Highland heifers – “good things come in small packages”
Prices for the Scottish breed of highland cattle have skyrocketed in 2022, due to a surge in demand creating competition for very limited offerings. The “boutique breed” performed strongly on AuctionsPlus this year, with heifers and cows averaging $7,093/head. A highlight included four-year-old cow “Mildred” with an eight-week-old calf-at-foot from Yass, NSW which returned $15,550.
