Records are made to be broken…but the commercial ewe record falling three times in less than two months would have seemed incomprehensible during the depths of 2019. On top of the record high prices, breaking the $1,000/head barrier for commercial ewes is the “cream on top”.

The $1,000/head barrier was sensationally broken in yesterday’s AuctionsPlus Tuesday National Sheep Sale, when “R & K Greenfields Pty” from Bundalong, Northern Victoria offered 40 SIL Australian White Tattykeel certified ewes, which sold for $1,015/head - surpassing the record set in June by $21. These pure Tattykeel blood Australian White ewes were April/May 2020 drop, averaged 69.4kg liveweight, carried the Tattykeel certified red tags and were purchased by a bidder in southern NSW.

There were 8 active bidders competing for the lot, with 6 bidders from Victoria and 2 from NSW. The lot received 63 bids and cleared the reserve by $315. These ewes were station mated to Australian White rams, 2 – 3 months in lamb at time of assessment, with 60% multiples and 40% singles.

Australian White lines offered with Tattykeel certified red tags continue to dominate the market, attracting a remarkable amount of demand and breaking records. Buyers are willing to pay top dollar to secure these Tattykeel lines, and in the current market, sellers are certainly being rewarded through AuctionsPlus.
