It has been quite some time since the number of cattle offered on AuctionsPlus’ weekly commercial cattle sales was down on both the previous week and the corresponding week in 2020. With a catalogued 16,400 head across the Weaner & Yearling Sale 1, Weaner & Yearling Sale 2 and the Eastern States Cattle Sale, prices are expected to maintain those of recent week, especially for the lightest steer lines – which have been harder to find than an optimistic Wallabies supporter in recent weeks.
With most breeding cattle offered through the Eastern States Cattle Sale (commencing 11am EST), biding is again expected to be intense, with almost 1,700 cows with CAF among the offering. Given the recent warmer weather, excellent spring rainfall outlook and robust market sentiment, producers looking for the quickest way to increase herd numbers heading towards 2022 are expected to face fierce competition.
