One of the first shots for the upcoming weaner season will get fired this week, with the pre-sale catalogue views for the Amherst Circuit Weaner Sale a clear indication of the rampant demand for weaner cattle in late spring. Along with the normal Friday commercial cattle sales, over 18,500 head of weaners, yearlings and breeding stock will be offered throughout Friday.

Tomorrows Amherst Circuit Weaner Sale, arranged by Spence Dix & Co, will see 2,547 Angus weaners offered commencing at 2.30pm Sydney time. Adding to the expected competition is the chance for buyers to secure larger, consistent lines of Angus weaners. The auction will be run as a physical on property live auction, which will be interfaced with AuctionsPlus to allow for online bidding. Each lot will be sold sequentially, and Spence Dix & Co will be settling agents and auctioneering.

For AuctionsPlus’ normal weekly commercial cattle sales, Weaner & Yearling Sale 1, focusing on Queensland and northern NSW offerings, has 7,565 head listed for sale, with another very good offering out of western and northern Queensland. The impact of the recent rain through large swathes of central Australia, Queensland and northern NSW will again spur buyer interest, with northern producers hoping this may signal the start of the much-anticipated wet season.

Weaner & Yearling Sale 2, focusing on southern NSW, Victoria and SA has just over 4,000 head offered. Again, the rain and damp conditions through many regions in recent weeks is expected to underpin buyer competition, albeit, with a sense of frustration for those also looking to get harvest underway.

There is another very good offering of breeding cattle through the Eastern States Cattle Sale, commencing at 11am EDST. The clearance rate for PTIC heifers will again be closely watched, with any jump to above 80% an early indication of a rejuvenation in the long-term outlook for further herd rebuilding.
