It will be another very busy Friday for the AuctionsPlus online platform, with 17,500 head of cattle scheduled to be offered through the three main commercial auctions. The dynamics shaping the market are expected to be unchanged from the previous weeks and months – with producers competing fiercely for quality lighter lines, while decades-high rebuilding intentions will ensure a solid floor continues to be set under the joined and CAF lines.
First cab off the rank tomorrow at 9am EST will be the Weaner and Yearling Sale 1, which encapsulates the Northern Territory, Queensland and Northern NSW areas, has 7,290 head listed. At 10am, Weaner and Yearling Sale 2 will commence, covering the southern half of NSW, Victoria and SA, with 4,675 head catalogued. Last, but certainly not least for the big three commercial sales, is the Eastern States Cattle Sale, commencing at 11am. Covering primarily breeding lines, there is just under 5,500 head on offer tomorrow across the four eastern mainland states, including around 2,000 cows with CAF.
Tasmania also has a larger offering this week, with over 700 head being offered across 62 lots.
With plenty of records already flowing through the Australian cattle market, the latest price outlook from ABARES for 2021-22 is a further vote of confidence. For 2021-22, ABARES has forecast that trade steers (330-400kg) will average 6% higher, while prices for heavy steers (500-600kg) will jump 2.1% and medium cows (400-520kg) will be steady, compared to 2020-21.
