The largest AuctionsPlus commercial cattle offering in almost four months, at over 20,000 head, is set to be the biggest test of demand online for cattle so far in 2021. With the run of record prices and exceptionally high clearance rates in recent months, vendors have responded in force to the lure of high prices as spring conditions start to take hold.

With an estimated 20,121 cattle scheduled across the three main commercial cattle sales tomorrow, offerings are 30% above the corresponding week last year and an astounding 211% greater than the same period in 2019. The majority of the numbers this week are on offer through the Weaner & Yearling Sale 1 (commencing at 9am EST), which has 10,102 head catalogued from WA, NT, Queensland and northern NSW. Among the huge northern offering, 4,800 weaners are catalogued for sale, with some excellent lines from central Queensland, along with some unique lines out of Marble Bar, WA and Katherine, NT.

For the southern focused Weaner & Yearling Sale 2 (commencing at 10am EST), the numbers are closer to previous week levels, at just below 4,600 head - with bidding again expected to be fierce for the 1,727 head of weaners catalogued. While the search and competition for light weaners will again be red hot, the consistently high clearance rates for the heavier lines continues to show robust demand through all segments of the young cattle market.

Given some price volatility in recent sales, and last week unusually low clearance rates, the PTIC heifer portion of the Eastern States Cattle Sale (commencing at 11am EST) will again be closely watched.
