The second annual Red and Black Goat sale, held on Wednesday at Cobar, delivered another impressive result for vendors, highlighting the confidence flowing through all livestock sectors in 2021. The headline result for the sale was an Australian Buck record, with Lot 17, “Marrakesh” selling for $21,000/head. This lot had plenty of pre-auction hype and action, with five different bidders competing for the buck, which eventually sold to the Mosley family from Etiwanda Stud, Cobar.
There was a total of 141 lots offered across the sale, comprising of 92 bucks, 38 does, 57 embryos and 100 straws of semen. The sale was a mixed vendor offering between Bunnaloo Black Goats from Bunnallo NSW and Rangeland Red Goat Stud from Goodooga NSW - settled through Nurtien Ag Solutions Cobar.
The 92 bucks averaged $4,134/head, with Bunnaloo Black bucks averaging $3,600/head and the Rangeland Reds averaging $4,485/head. The does averaged $5,410/head, which comprised of Bunnaloo Black stud does. The does topped at $13,500/head for lot 113, which also received plenty of attention, with two online bidders competing against several onsite bidders.
Online activity was extremely strong throughout the sale, with 57 lots selling to online users. The catalogue received 4,867 views, with 188 users entering the auction to either bid or view. A total of 621 bids was placed across 124 of the 141 lots. Successful purchasers hailed from NSW, Queensland, Victoria and SA.
