With names like Foxtrot, Schnitz, Cupboard, Tango and Whiskey, you’d be mistaken into thinking AuctionsPlus was selling burgers, alcohol or even a new COVID variant, but for the second time on the platform, camels are back. With the unique names creating plenty of attention to the online catalogue, the largest un-reserved special dairy camel sale ran across five days as an online only sale.

The sale showcased a wide variety of stock categories, from heifers and bulls, to pregnant camels and cow and calves, with the varied offering resulting in over 6,000 catalogue views and over 2,200 users nationwide logging into the auction.

Interstate demand for the offering was high with camels heading to both NSW and Tasmania, while also remaining locally in Victoria.

Pregnant camels made up 44% of the catalogue with the 110 head offered selling between $250 to $570 to average $274/head. “Bella” topped the category and was described as “a good milker that might be suitable for camel rides”.

The 70 heifer camels on offer achieved a 100% clearance selling from $150 to $790, averaging $222/head. Topping the category and the sale was “Giddy” who was described as “having a great temperament being hand raised as a pet”.
