The Glenroy Clearing Sale was held on property on Wednesday the 2nd of March at Penola, SA with AuctionsPlus interfacing the sale to include live audio and online bidding across the sale.
The auction comprised of 315 lots, of which 307 sold at auction, 5 passed in and 3 lots received no bids. With a range of items including: tractors, trucks, motor vehicles, trailers, cropping and hay equipment to livestock items. The fierce demand and resulting sale outcome showcase the strength of the current booming Agricultural industry, with producers sparing no expense on quality to reinvest and strengthen their operations.
The sale grossed a sum of $7.2 million dollars, with online purchases contributing $4.39 million or 61% of the gross auction takings. A total of 149 lots or 47% of the catalogue sold to online buyers from five different states.
Throughout the sale which ran for just over 7 hours, 2,475 AuctionsPlus users entered the auction, of which 1,059 were registered to bid and the catalogue received 16,723 views.
There were 314 active bidders from seven different states, placing a total of 4,645 bids across 309 different lots.
While an online auction may be enticing to those who live great distances from the physical sale centre, those local to the Glenroy auction utilised online also. Those users living within an hour’s drive of the auction totalled 146, showcasing the range of users who utilise the online platform. Looking further afield, active bidders from the Northern Territory and Western Australia showed interest in several lots in the sale, with the Northern Territory user securing a purchase.
An online buyer from north of Moree, NSW secured the top priced lot of the day, lot 175 – 2020 John Deere 8R370 tractor which sold for $420,000.
Another highlight from the sale was the previously mentioned buyer located in Katherine, NT who purchased a Simplicity airseeder cart for $145,000.
Towards the end of the sale, there was red-hot demand for 30 lots of 1t Wooden Potato Boxes. Sold as lots of 250, 500 and 1,000 boxes across 30 different lots, these boxes sold for more than their retail price, ranging in prices between $150 and $190. This is due to the supply chain constraints currently being experienced across the world because of the covid pandemic, which has bolstered domestic prices.

A New Holland C9.90 Twin Rotor Harvester returned $310,000 – selling for $170,000 above the reserve price to a buyer from Litchfield, VIC.
A Honda 1000cc EPS side by side with 4,500kms on the odometer sold for $34,000 - $5,000 above the reserve price to a buyer from Campbell Town, Tasmania.
A 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser single cab ute with 210,800kms on the odometer sold for $62,000 - $9,000 above the reserve price to a bidder in Penola, SA. Included in the offering was a bull bar, spotlights, UHF and seat covers.
