October’s stud selling season is in full swing, with several standout ram sales interfaced through AuctionsPlus, spotlighting some impressive results so far.

Leading the way is the ‘Tattykeel 49th Annual Poll Dorset Stud Sale,’ which has set the top price for a ram interfaced through AuctionsPlus this month, selling Tattykeel 230014 for $25,000.

Meanwhile, a variation of breeds have reached the top prices for the month, from Poll Dorsets, to Merinos and Dorpers.

This range of top prices across breeds underscores the ongoing confidence in both terminal and maternal sires, catering to the diverse needs of commercial and stud buyers nationwide.

 

The Tattykeel 49th Annual Poll Dorset Stud Sale’ has achieved the top price ram interfaced through AuctionsPlus in October so far.

The sale reached a top of $25,000 for Tattykeel 230014, the supreme exhibit from both the Sydney Royal and the NSW Sheep Show at Dubbo. The ram was purchased onsite to Roger Wilkinson, Camborn Poll Dorsets, Pooncarie.

In the breakdown, 17 of 21 stud rams sold to an average of $8,059. Meanwhile, in the flock rams, 46 of 68 sold to average $1,739, reaching a top price of $3,000.

Online presence was strong, with the top online purchase reaching $17,500. Overall, 33 lots sold online to 11 successful buyers.

 

TheRichmond Merino Ram Saleheld on property at Quandialla, New South Wales, saw another day of strong results with the sale topping at $24,000.

The top priced ram was Richmond 230080 purchased in a partnership between Bradley Schroeder, Gunallo Poll Merinos, Pinaroo, SA, and Bruce Pengilly, Penrose Poll Merinos, Lort River, WA.

The ram was an August-2023 drop by Hill Padua 211050. He ranked in the top 5% for yearling staple length at +25.1, and the top 10% for post-weaning weight at +9.62.

The sale achieved an average of $2,267 across the 101 rams sold, with additional lots sold post-sale.

 

To south-west Victoria where the ‘Ivadene Poll Dorset Salesucceeded their top price from the 2023 October sale by $7,500.

This year the top-priced ram sold online for $20,000 to Rob and Ange Frohling, Hovell Poll Dorset stud, Burrumbuttock, New South Wales. Last year, the Ivadene stud reached a top of $12,500 at its October sale.

The stud sold all 104 of the rams offered in the sale for an average of $2333. Both stud and commercial producers were active in the sale, with rams being sold into western Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.

 

To South Australia, where the 'Ella Matta White Suffolk, Maternal & Poll Merino Ram Sale' achieved 95% clearance across the 259 lots offered. 

In the sale breakdown, 196/197 White Suffolk rams sold to an average of $1,484 and topped the day at $19,000. Meanwhile, 12/22 Wool Maternal rams sold to an average of $1,166 and topped at $1,800.

In the maternal rams, 39/40 sold to an average of $1,812 and reached a top price of $3,200. Meanwhile, 37/52 Poll Merino rams sold to an average of $1,459, reaching the top price of $3,000.

 

The ‘Deepdale Dorpers Annual Sale’ proved a great inaugural sale for the stud, achieving full clearance. In the breakdown, 137 rams sold to an average of $6,201.

The sale topped at $16,500 onsite with the purchase of tag 230368 (lot 89). The spirited online bidding topped at $6,500 with four successful bidders securing 10 lots.

 

There was a full clearance at the ‘Dell African Dumisa 13th On Property Ram And Ewe Sale at their on-property sale near Moama, New South Wales.

In the sale breakdown of the rams, all 75 Dorper rams sold to a top price of $15,500 and for an average of $4,064 while all 32 White Dorper rams sold to a top of $12,000 and for an average of $3,531.

The top-priced sire was Dell Dorpers 230178, which sold for $15,500 to Kelleen Dorper and White Dorper stud, Pooncarie.

Meanwhile in the ewes, all 20 Dorper ewes sold to a top of $2,400 and for an average of $1,520, while all 15 White Dorper ewes sold to $1,700 and for an average of $1,200.

The keen online presence was persistent throughout the sale with the top online price reaching $12,000. With 17 active online bidders placing over 260 bids, nine successful purchasers secured 21 lots.
