The shift from conventional on-farm machinery and clearing sales, to a digitised interfaced sale have been rapidly growing in recent years through AuctionsPlus, with 13 sales utilising the option so far in 2022. Vendors are realising that the choice of online connectivity helps bring a national footprint to the sale, with very little additional costs.

One of the key advantages of the interface auction is the flexibility it gives to potential buyers, giving them the option to bid from anywhere, or attend the sale. Online streaming capabilities through audio allows online users to feel like they are present at the auctions, hearing all the activity.

With the wait times on new machinery, or parts, still significantly impacted by supply chain disruptions, second hand machinery remains in hot demand. Producers have been willing to look far and wide to secure second hand items, with recent clearing sales held online highlighting this demand. A highlight so far in 2022 has been the movements of items from Victoria to Queensland, ranging from woodchipper, to a truck.

Friday, July 29th, saw the Slade Pastoral Co. Clearing sale held on property in Central West NSW, with AuctionsPlus interfacing the sale with audio livestreaming capabilities. The sale had 43 lots offered, with items including lawn mowers, augers, utes, side by sides, tractors, and a header. A total of 446 registered bidders logged into the auction from all over Australia, including Victoria, Queensland, SA, Tasmania and NSW. Online activity was strong, with bids placed on 91% of the auction lots, resulting in 19 of the 43 lots (44%) selling online and grossing one million dollars of online purchases. Highlights from the sale include lot 27 a “B-Double Tipper” sold for $200,000 to an online buyer from Victoria.

Continuing from Friday’s successful online results, Saturday July 30th saw the Bauhinia Vale clearing sale held on property at Wandoan, Queensland. With pre-bidding the day before the sale, Saturday’s live auction saw 50 lots interfaced online, with 342 registered bidders logging in from NSW, Victoria, SA, Tasmania, WA and Queensland. Online activity resulted in bids on 84% of the offering, resulting in 17 lots (34%) selling to online buyers. Highlights from the sale included the top price lot of the day (lot 49) “New Holland T7040 Wheel Tractor” selling to an online buyer for $128,000. Lot 23, a “AA180 International Body Truck”, saw multiple online bidders going head-to-head, cranking up from a start of $200, to see the lot sold online for $4,300.
