Machinery and clearing sales held online from Western Australia have been on a steady rise since 2021, with the number of sales in 2022 utilising the AuctionsPlus platform rising 60% on 2021.

The popularity of machinery and clearing sales has continued in 2023, with Western Australia interfacing their first on farm clearing sale with the “Nookanderri Farms, East Binnu” auction held on the 15th of February.

While the majority of clearing sales held on AuctionsPlus are run as online only auctions, interfacing larger items held on farm is becoming a popular option for vendors and agents, bringing national exposure to the sale in a market where second-hand items are heavily in demand due to shipping delays and increasing costs of new machinery.

Interstate interest was a highlight of the “Nookanderri Farms” clearing sale, which saw bidders from across NSW, SA, Victoria and Queensland logging in to the sale alongside local buyers. Successful purchases were made by online buyers in NSW, SA and WA. Online action was strong from the beginning, with 107 users logging into the auction and 23 online bidders active on 23 out of the 37 lots on offer (62%). A total of 6 lots sold online, grossing over $800,000 in online purchases.

Topping the sale was Lot 134, a John Deere 4045 SP Sprayer. Secured by an online buyer for $315,000, the item will be heading six hours south to Meckering, WA. Other sale highlights included Lot 132, a John Deere 8370RT tractor, selling to a NSW buyer over 4,000km away for $244,000. Also making the journey to NSW is a 2015 Shelbourne Reynolds RSD32 Stripper Front, selling for $19,500. Interstate interest also saw Lot 117, a John Deere 1910 commodity cart sell for $51,000 to a buyer 2,600km away in SA.
