The highlight of the weekly Tasmanian cattle sale this week was a line of 8 Speckle Park NSM future breeders weighing 364kg, selling for $4,875/head. Bidding kicked off at $4,100/head, with a total of 31 bids placed by bidders from NSW, Victoria and locally in Tasmania.
Born in a four-week period across February and March of 2020, these heifers were purebred and registered. Offered by Elders Tasmania on behalf of ‘JJ & VA Argent’ from Elliot in Tasmania, these 14–15-month-old vendor bred heifers are by Roscrea and Gin Gin cows and sired by River Hill, High Low and JAD bulls using artificial insemination.
Jeff Argent, the vendor, has used AuctionsPlus previously to buy and sell, and said he chose to list the heifers on AuctionsPlus to “get them advertised Australia-wide” with Elders agents Greg Harris and Crighton Horton receiving calls from both local and interstate buyers throughout the campaign. Selling $650 above reserve, Jeff said they sold “better than anticipated” and the heifers will make the journey to the Central West of NSW.
Overall, the sale had over 5,000 catalogue views and a total of 181 users connecting to the auction. There were 48 active bidders of which 22 were successful, while achieving a clearance of 87% at the conclusion of the auction.
