The Wagga working dog auction held on Saturday August 14 sparked a huge amount of online interest at both the pre-auction bidding and live auction, which was interfaced on AuctionsPlus. An overall fantastic result was achieved for the sale, with the auction averaging $8,773 per dog, with a top price of $34,000.
Despite some Covid related challenges on the day, the Wagga working dog auction was a great success, with a total 17 of the 37 dogs sold at auction going to AuctionsPlus registered buyers. Successful purchases came from all corners of the country, with buyers from NSW, QLD, SA, WA, and VIC.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the auction was lot 51 ‘Eveready Spud’ – a 3.5-year-old black and tan “work horse” kelpie sold by Emelia Walton from NSW. Spud achieved the top price of the sale, reaching an astounding $34,000 and selling to an AuctionsPlus buyer from NSW. This result was $14,000 more than the top price from the 2020 Wagga dog auction and only $1,200 shy of the record-breaking working dog ‘Hoover’ which sold for $35,200 in June. In the pre-auction, ‘Eveready Spud’ received a plethora of online bidding activity, with 54 bids made before the auction kicked off – primarily from buyers in NSW and VIC.
A total of 28,065 catalogue views across both pre-bidding and live auction pages on AuctionsPlus were received - a strong indicator of online interest across the offering of working dogs.
Pre bidding for the dog auction was open for seven days prior to the auction commencing. In this time, 313 online bids were placed across 45 of the lots by 79 unique AuctionsPlus registered bidders. Throughout the interfaced sale on Saturday, a further 433 online bids were received across 45 of the 53 lots at auction.
