Following a quieter month in April, AuctionsPlus commercial goat listings reached 7,069 head in May – up 21% on the previous month. Widespread rainfall across southern Queensland and western NSW spurred demand for the offering, with the 95% average clearance rate for the month easily exceeding the much larger commercial cattle, sheep and lamb results. Southern Queensland and western NSW continued to dominate listing regions, with 3,409 and 1,774 head offered respectively, with the NSW Northwest Slopes & Plains (715 head) rounding out the top three regions.

Rangeland does saw the biggest offering for the month, with 2,689 head accounting for 38% of the offering. Prices for the category averaged $132/head, or 438c/kg lwt – up $12 on last month. Demand held strong across the category, achieving a 93% clearance. A highlight for the month included two even lines of 1–6-year-old does from Ivanhoe, NSW, totalling 1,264 head. Weighing 34kg lwt, the does averaged $126/head, or 378c/kg lwt - selling to a buyer from Tindarey, NSW.

Rangeland wethers registered a 100% clearance for the month. Offered across three even lines totalling 1,380 head, the 6–8-month-old wethers averaged 18kg lwt, selling to an average of $112/head, or 620c/kg lwt.

Boer bucks had a total of 121 head offered across the month, with the category registering a 28% clearance rate. Prices averaged $234/head, or 634c/kg lwt – back $67/head from April. 11 stud Boer bucks were offered for the month, achieving a 45% clearance, and selling to an average of $3,550/head.

Boer does registered a 90% clearance for May across the 523 head offered. Prices for the category averaged $337/head, or 1,112c/kg lwt – back $222 on last month. From Euabalong West, NSW, a line of 14, four-year-old does, averaging 60kg lwt, sold for $303/head, or 503c/kg lwt to a buyer from Boorowa, NSW.

First cross bucks averaged $125/head, or 478c/kg lwt, selling from $115 to $142/head. The 1,568 head offering registered a 100% clearance. From Morven, Queensland, a line of 680 Bore/Rangeland bucks, aged 6-16 months, weighing 22kg lwt, returned $115/head, or 520c/kg lwt - selling to a buyer from Longreach, Queensland.

Kalahari bucks registered a 77% clearance rate for 26 head offered. Offered as single lots, the quality and breeding were reflected in the prices, selling from $1,000 to $8,500/head, averaging $2,285/head. Achieving the top price was a nine-month-old buck from Childers, Southern Queensland, weighing 31kg liveweight, selling to a buyer from St George, Queensland.

Kalahri does saw 18 head offered for the month, registering a 94% clearance. With a large majority of the categories offering from a renowned stud selling as un-registered commercial does, the bloodlines and quality were reflected in prices, achieving an average of $4,020/head. From Euabalong West, NSW, a line of eight does, aged 10-11 months, weighing 24kg lwt sold for $238/head, or 1204c/kg lwt - selling to a buyer from Gatton, Queensland. Topping the category was a single doe from Childers, Queensland, aged nine months, weighing 30kg lwt, selling for $4,960/head.
