AuctionsPlus commercial cattle numbers fell substantially again this week, decreasing by 26%, to 9,236 head offered. The weekly indicators were all positive, with Value Over Reserve a standout, jumping ahead $43 to average $91/head above set reserves.
The difference between set start and reserve rates had a significant impact on clearance rates this week. Lots reserve rates that were set at 5% and under above the start price returned a 68% average clearance, whereas those set further apart, above 5%, only averaged a 37% chance of selling.
AuctionsPlus commercial cattle listings lifted to 16,839 head, increasing by 11% in the week ending 21st June 2024. The larger offering was met with mixed competition as clearance fell to 52%, while value over reserve lifted by $74 to average $108.
It was a strong week for lighter unjoined heifers, with the three lightest categories all registering stronger prices.
AuctionsPlus commercial cattle numbers fell 5% this week, totalling 16,702 head, with overall demand reducing by 19 percentage points to register a 54% clearance rate.
AuctionsPlus cattle listings remained almost exactly the same as the previous week, with just a two-head difference. The Value Over Reserve jumped significantly by $28 to $95.
This week listings rose 17% to 17,509 head. The average Value Over Reserve jumped $13 to $94 and the clearance rate dropped 22 percentage points to 53%. The AuctionsPlus Young Cattle Indicator fell 20 points to 359, meanwhile benchmark steers 280-330kg were down 6% to $1,109.
AuctionsPlus commercial cattle listings rose 22% to 14,916 head. The average Value Over Reserve jumped $37 to $102 and the clearance rate dropped 10 percentage points to 66%. The AuctionsPlus Young Cattle Indicator lifted 20 points to 369, meanwhile benchmark steers 280-330kg were up 1% to $1,183.
