Results this week across the national AuctionsPlus young cattle categories were varied, as rain through key supply regions was welcome, with some heavier falls through previously soaked coastal regions. With overall supplies back 8% on last week, at 16,425 head, the overall clearance rate was robust, especially for the lighter steer lines.

This week again saw 280-330kg steers in the largest supply, with a 74% clearance rate for the 2,283 head offered - as prices edged slightly lower on last week, down $2, at $1,623/head. For the lighter 200-280kg category, average prices increased $50/head on last week, to $1,483/head. For the lighter steer categories, 80 weaned Angus steers, 6-7 months old from Braidwood NSW, averaging 262.2kg/head liveweight, sold to $1,605/head, or 1,163c/kg dressed. Similarly, 57 weaned Angus steers out of Singleton, NSW, 8-9 months old, sold to $1,520/head – averaging 239.1kg/head liveweight, or 1,258.3c/kg dressed.

330-400kg steers averaged $1,768/head this week, back $15 head – with a 73% clearance rate for the 2,051 head offered. Maintaining the volatility from recent weeks, there was a significant jump for the 692 head of 400kg+ steers offered, increasing $226, to average $2,124/head. An indicative line of 78 heavy feeders steers, 18-19 months old and averaging 456.2kg liveweight, out of Koroit, Victoria, sold to $2,140/head – equating to 948.2c/kg dressed.

There was another steady line of PTIC heifers offered this week, with a 70% clearance rate for the 2,533 head offered. PTIC heifers averaged $7 lower for the week, at $2,225/head. PTIC cows sold to a softer average, down $229, to $2,182/head, with a 67% clearance rate for the 1,754 head offered.

There continued to be selected lines of cows with CAF out of Queensland this week, with 54 SM Droughtmaster cows, with 54 CAF selling to $2,400/unit. Out of Aramac, Queensland, the 54 cows averaged 481.5kg liveweight and ranged from 8-12 years of age. Similarly, 43 Santa cows with 43 CAF from Mundubbera, sold to $2,920/unit – with the cows averaging 530.5kg liveweight, ranging from 2.5-6.5 years of age.

In the wake of some very welcome falls of rain in WA, 51 Murray Grey steers from Muchea, sold to $1,740/head, or 1,015.8c/kg dressed. The 10–12-month-old steers averaged 319.5kg liveweight.
