Commercial cattle listings in AuctionsPlus slipped to 9,186 head, down 15% on last week. The smaller offering created competition between bidders and pushed clearance up to 54%. Value over reserve was also higher, increasing $12 to average $89/head. Breeding stock numbers in particular were limited, AuctionsPlus Network Partner for Western Victoria and Eastern SA, Ellen Simpson, said “there was not a single breeding female listed in SA as good rainfall and feed availability caused producers to hold stock on farm.”

Breeding Stock

PTIC heifers registered the smallest offering since August 2022, with 550 head averaging $1,456/head – up $224 on last week for a 56% clearance. The limited offering is likely a case of producers choosing to hold stock on farm due to favorable feed availability, and unfavorable prices. From Sandy Point, Victoria, a line of 20 Angus PTIC heifers aged 20 - 22 months old and weighing 478kg returned $1,720/head.

PTIC cows registered 1,131 head and averaged $1,504/head – down $33 from last week for a 54% clearance. From Willbriggie, New South Wales, a line of 29 Poll Hereford cows aged six years old and weighing 724kg returned $1,700/head and will travel to a buyer in Lake Cargelligo, NSW.
