AuctionsPlus sheep and lamb offering increased by 15% this week, with a total of 112,308 head listed online. Compared to the corresponding week in 2020, the total offering across the commercial sheep and lamb sales this week was up 12%. The NSW Central West purchased 20% of the catalogue this week, with the NSW Riverina and Northwest Victoria securing 12% and 10% of the total offering, respectively.

Prices for new season lambs continued to be tested, with numbers increasing by 25% this week. Five of the six lamb categories averaged higher than last week - a testament to the current robustness of the market and ongoing demand.

Crossbred and Merino wether lambs made up 24% and 22%, respectively of the total offering this week, with unwaivering demand across both categories despite the increased listing. Merino wether lambs averaged $145/head – up $1, and sold to a top of $225/head this week. From Oaklands NSW, a line of 255 Pooginook Blood Merino wether lambs weighing an average of 26.8kg liveweight returned the top price for the category.

First cross ewe lambs also saw an increase in numbers this week, with the category offering 10,560 head – 9% of the total catalogue. Following a $50 rise in the average first cross ewe lamb price last week, the category recorded a $9 decline, to average $300/head - with clearance rates only hitting 79%, compared to 90% last week.

Merino wethers totalled 1,786 head this week, with the category recording 100% clearance – with prices for the category back $17 from last week, to average $151/head. A majority of wethers will travel south following this weeks sale, with Victorian buyers purchasing 71% of the Merino wether offering.

Joined ewe categories continued to rise in value this week, with four of the five categories recording higher prices. SIL Merino ewes increased from 765 head last week, to 1,300 head offered this week. The higher numbers was met by red hot demand, as the category recorded 100% clearance and averaged $2 higher at $268/head.

The station mated shedding breed ewe category increased by 99% from last week, averaging $61 higher at $387/head - with 97% clearance. SIL shedding breed ewes saw yet another record broken this week, with a line of 10 SIL Australian White ewe lambs with Tattykeel blood fetching $1,351/head - surpassing the previous record by $141/head. The ewes were Aug-Sep 20’ drop and averaged 91kg liveweight.
