AuctionsPlus sheep and lamb listings climbed this week, with the platform seeing a 20% increase on last week, with 53,610 head offered. With winter in full force and the increase in supply, prices varied considerably across the AuctionsPlus indicative stock categories.

While lambs observed a price decline in four-out-of-six categories, the cheaper market saw the clearance rate remain positive. Joined ewes were highly sought after, with increased average prices across indicative classes and a record was once again broken. Recent rainfall and seasonality benefits have promoted healthy demand across the eastern states and certainly contributed to the strong clearance rates registered this week.

Lamb categories recorded a downward trend in prices this week, with only two categories reporting a rise in averages, Merino wether lambs and Merino ewe lambs. Merino wether lambs saw the highest throughput for the week - with 12,467 head offered at a clearance rate of 80%. The category registered a $8 increase compared to last week and averaged $141/head. Merino ewe lambs observed the highest price increase for the week, averaging $231 for the 1,689 head offered - rising $44/head on last week.

Crossbred, first cross ewes and shedding breed lambs all fell in value this week, with 6,620 presented and prices reducing $95, $22, and $184/head, respectively. Despite this, they experienced steady clearance of 66%, 64% and 95%, respectively.

The joined ewe offering increased this week, with 24,027 head listed. Despite the high supply, demand for breeders is still strong, with clearance averaging 80% across the relevant categories. SIL Merino ewes and SIL first cross ewes saw a $4 and $34/head decrease, respectively, while SM shedding breed ewes shone through. The category saw 1,718 head offered and achieved an average price of $511, up a further $210/head from last week. This was influenced largely by a record selling run of Australian White ewe lambs, topping at $994 - breaking last week’s record of $988/head. These SM ewe lambs were 9-11 months of age, 55.9kg liveweight and were offered with the red Tattykeel certified tags.

There was limited supply of NSM lines this week, with only one lot of Merino hoggets registering a sale, at $222/head - back $9/head on last week.
