A total of 66,266 commercial sheep and lambs were offered through AuctionsPlus this week, down 24% on last weeks offering. The third consecutive weekly drop in overall listings assisted higher clearance rates at the immediate closure of the auction, hitting 57%. Post-sale negotiations have seen the overall clearance rate increase to 69%, the highest clearance rate across the sheep and lamb sales for the month of March.national lamb listing and purchaseLambs accounted for 54% of the total offering this week, with 35,932 head offered across the six main categories, with prices for all but two categories averaging higher week-on-week.

Crossbred lambs totaled 8,126 head and averaged $148/head – down $6 on last week. While the category was one of the few seeing a decline in prices for the week, demand for the reduced offering was strong, registering the second highest clearance rate at 88%.

Merino wether lambs recorded the largest offering for the second consecutive week, accounting for 22% of total listings, at 14,364 head. Prices for the category ranged from $115-$157, averaging $140 – up $14/head. An indicative line consisting of 420 lambs weighing 38kg liveweight from Merriwa, NSW, returned $140/head.

Merino ewe lamb numbers and clearance rates were slightly back on last week, with 1,978 head offered and a 79% clearance at the weeks end. Prices jumped $7, to average $190/head. A highlight for the category was a line of 120 lambs, weighing 42.7kg from Parkes, NSW, returning $195/head.

First cross ewe lambs had a total of 2,889 head listed online this week, returning a 57% clearance rate. Prices for the category ranged between $180-$277, averaging $214/head for the week – a $10 decline on last week.

Joined ewe listings accounted for 28% of the total catalogue this week, with 18,765 head offered - a significant drop on last weeks numbers. The decline in listings supported higher prices for four of the eight reported categories on last week, with buyers willing to dig deeper into their pockets for quality joined breeding lines.

SIL Merino ewes accounted for the largest joined ewe offering, with 8,692 head listed. Demand remained consistent on last week, with the category reaching a final clearance of 62% - up from 50% at the immediate closure of Tuesdays auctions. Averaging $271/head, prices ranged from $200 - $368 – up $39 on last week. Topping the category from Boorowa, NSW, were 91 rising three-year-old ewes, weighing 68.5kg.

SIL first cross ewes averaged higher for the week, at $303/head – up $25. Clearance rates rose throughout the week, up from 53% post sale on Tuesday, to 63% by late Thursday for the 2,879 head offered. SIL Composite/other breed ewes returned the highest clearance across all categories, at 96%, with the category averaging $254/head – down $33. A highlight from the category included a line of 142 rising three-year-old Dohne ewes from Tennyson, Victoria, weighing 68.9kg and returning $399/head. Station mated shedding breed ewes registered a broad range in prices, largely in line with quality and bloodlines this week, selling between $170-$814 and averaging $416/head for the 2,249 head offered – up $128.
